Wire crimp pull testers use either a manual or motorized test stand to apply tension to a wire with crimped-on terminal.
Manual vise grips or automatic gripping attachments can be used to grip the wire and the wire terminal can be gripped with a vise attachment or with an adjustable aperture grip that fits the wire gauge and prevents the wire terminal from pulling through.
Once the wire is secured in the attachments, the motorized test stand (or the lever arm on the manual test stand) pulls off the wire terminal. Mechanical or digital force gauges on the test stand capture the peak force at which the wire terminal is pulled off the wire.
Digital force gauges feature data output which can analyzed with optional data acquisition software.
Testing for adequate pull off force on wire terminal connectors insures against loose connections which may function intermittently, are difficult to troubleshoot, and can wind up as rejects.
